CGI headquarters property sells to Schambach Revivals

By Mac Overton

TYLER, Texas-The Church of God International has announced the sale of its headquarters property on Lake Palestine, south of Tyler.

Schambach Revivals, Inc., a regionally known Pentecostal ministry based in this area, has bought the property.

The CGI, in turn, has purchased an office building in Tyler and completed the move into that facility the week of May 28.

Church business manager Benny Sharp, who lives in the Tyler area, told The Journal that the 20-acre headquarters property had been on the market for about a year and a half. He said Schambach was among the first prospective buyers to look at it. The sale includes an office building, auditorium and other facilities. Mr. Sharp said he thinks Schambach Revivals has about 40 employees.

"When we listed it with a broker, we listed it with Schambach as an exception to the listing."

This means Schambach could deal directly with the CGI, thus not having to pay a broker's fee.

The CGI's new office is a 5,600-square-foot building at 3900 Timms St., off Tyler's southwest loop. The church's mailing address remains unchanged: P.O. Box 2525, Tyler, Texas 75710, U.S.A.

The church had placed its lake property on the market after a decrease in income that followed a split in the church that led to the founding of the Intercontinental Church of God by former CGI members. The ICG is also headquartered in the Tyler area.

Mr. Sharp said the CGI had looked for property to lease or buy and ended up purchasing the new facility outright.

The CGI has a new telephone number, (903) 939-2929. E-mail the CGI at info@cgi.org .
