United Church prints millionth booklet

ARVADA, Colo.--In July the United Church of God, an International Association, passed a printing milestone when it produced its millionth English-language booklet. The church printed two new booklets in July, The Book of Revelation Unveiled (51,000 copies) and Heaven and Hell: What Does the Bible Really Teach? (40,000).

The two booklets were the 21st and 22nd published by the church in its five-year history. The one on Revelation was written by Roger Foster, an elder and church writer in Glendale, Ariz., and the one on heaven and hell by Noel Hornor, an elder in Portland, Ore. Both have written earlier booklets and many articles for United publications.

This year United has printed a total of 306,000 booklets, which includes 161,000 copies of four new booklets and 145,000 reprints of six booklets.

The church also launched its Bible-study course this year, printing 35,000 copies of each of its first seven lessons and recently reprinting the first lesson after the first 35,000 were exhausted.

The press run for the July-August issue of The Good News, printed in July, was 285,000, a 42 percent increase over a year ago.

All the above numbers are only for English-language publications that are distributed primarily in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Britain, the Caribbean and the Philippines. The church produces publications in other languages including Spanish, German, Italian, French and Dutch.

In 1996 the church published What Is Your Destiny?, The Road to Eternal Life, Sunset to Sunset: God's Sabbath Rest, The Gospel of the Kingdom and God's Holy Day Plan: The Promise of Hope for All Mankind.

In 1997, saddled with management and financial difficulties, the church added only one new booklet, What Happens After Death?

The next year, 1998, United published four new booklets, How to Understand the Bible, Is the Bible True?, Fundamental Beliefs of the United Church of God and The Ten Commandments.

In 1999 the church published eight new titles: The Church Jesus Built, Holidays or Holy Days: Does It Matter Which Days We Keep?, You Can Have Living Faith, Managing Your Finances, You Can Understand Bible Prophecy, Making Life Work, What Does the Bible Teach About Tithing? and Are We Living in the Time of the End?

So far in 2000 United has published four new booklets, Life's Ultimate Question: Does God Exist?, Creation or Evolution: Does It Really Matter What You Believe?, The Book of Revelation Unveiled and Heaven and Hell: What Does the Bible Really Teach?
