UCG Big Sandy plans fellowship weekend

BIG SANDY, Texas--The United Church of God Big Sandy invites everyone to a fellowship weekend Dec. 24-26. (The UCG Big Sandy is not affiliated with the UCG-AIA.)

"Last year we hosted a similar type of weekend at the same time of year," commented Dave Havir, pastor of the congregation.

"It was very successful, so people have asked us to do something again this winter."

Mr. Havir has noticed a trend, he said. "Many of the interdependent congregations who associate together like to get together at least twice a year.

"Besides the Feast of Tabernacles, people like to get together during the winter break when they have off from work and school.

"If our building can help to encourage worship, fellowship and educational opportunities among brethren, we are happy to help."

Sabbath activities

The activities this year will be similar to last year's. Here is a tentative schedule:

  • At 7 p.m. Friday Bible studies will take place in the church building for adults, teens and preteens.
  • At noon on Saturday will be a special-music service. "Like last year, there will be an hour and a half of quality music," said Mr. Havir.
  • At 2:30 p.m. will be a church service.
  • A chili dinner is set for 4 p.m.

Social activities

  • A barn dance is set for 6-11 p.m.
  • A few seminars are planned for Sunday, but the topics are not yet final.
  • Also set for Sunday are informal social activities arranged for children. Those activities will depend on interest.

"There has also been talk about using this weekend to discuss common-interest projects for interdependent congregations," said Mr. Havir.

"There will be much time for fellowshipping. But there can also be time for discussing the practical projects we are doing together. We can discuss Feast plans, family socials, teen opportunities and the like."

Musical talent

People with musical talent are invited to participate in the special-music service. To volunteer, call (800) 946-5545 (daytime only).
