Friends to reunite at Tahoe
ONTARIO, Calif.--A second Friends Reunion, a get-together of people with Worldwide Church of God, Imperial School and Ambassador College backgrounds, is set for Aug. 13-15 near Lake Tahoe, announced Clarke Hockwald of Ontario.
"We're expecting somewhere between 200 and 300 people," Mr. Hockwald told The Journal Feb. 28. "We basically are working off the mailing list the Friends Reunion in Tyler, Texas, compiled in 1997."
On Nov. 8 of that ar 220 people got together at the Sheraton Hotel in Tyler thanks to the organizing efforts of East Texans Sandie Boyce Brazil, Connie Beal Rhome and Anita Parrish Pierce. This time the organizers are Mr. Hockwald (AC class of '71) and his sister, Jill Hockwald Andrews (class of '73).
"We're still working on the mailing list," Mr. Hockwald said. "We're up to 486 people as of today."
The gathering will take place at the Tahoe Biltmore Hotel, in Crystal Bay, Nev., north of Incline Village and south of Tahoe City, near the California-Nevada line.
"We give all the information on our Web site about the host hotel and all the other local hotels," he said. "We give phone numbers and addresses for Realtors for condos or single-family dwellings and information for hotel rooms."
The 30 years that had elapsed since some of the people had seen each other at the 1997 reunion had not loosened the bonds between old friends, said Mr. Hockwald.
"The connection is still so strong," he said. "People who didn't come to the Tyler reunion are still kicking themselves."
