Longtime elder Robert C. Smith dies

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif.-Robert C. Smith, 69, of San Clemente, Calif., formerly of Big Sandy, Texas, died Nov. 11 at home after suffering with cancer for more than four years.

Mr. Smith was born May 5, 1928, in Buffalo, N.Y., to Carl and Mae (Roeder) Smith of East Auora, N.Y. Bob married Shirley Windsor June 25, 1949, in Orchard Park, N.Y. She survives.

"Dad's lifelong love was serving the brethren as a minister of God in the many congregations he had the opportunity to pastor," said his son Scott of Berne, Ind.

Mr. Smith pastored congregations of the Worldwide Church of God in Fontana and Banning, Calif.; Fort Worth and Austin Texas; and Phoenix, Ariz. "He had many wonderful memories of the thousands of friends he made while pastoring," his son said.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one daughter, Debra Krueger-Smith of Houston, Texas; three sons, Greg Smith (wife, Melinda) of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; Scott Smith (wife, Debbie) of Berne, Ind.; Kevin Smith of Arlington, Texas; a daughter-in-law, the widow of Jeff, Rhonda, of Arlington, Texas; nine grandchildren: Marisa (Smith) Larson, Brittany, Cody, Blake, Ashley, Gregory, Zachary, Chaz and Britton; and one great-grandchild: Mackenzie Larson.

The funeral was to be private, with burial in Gladewater, Texas, next to his son Jeff.
