Jim Ussery dies in Big Sandy

 

BIG SANDY, Texas -- Funeral services for James D. "Jim" Ussery, 80, of Big Sandy are scheduled for noon Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater, Texas, with Wayne Cole of Tyler, Texas, officiating.

Mr. Ussery, a longtime Church of God member and retired pastor of a congregation in Arkansas, died April 28 at his residence. He had earlier served as a deacon, elder and lay pastor. Mr. Ussery was also a retired U.S. Navy lieutenant.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Dorothy "Dot" Ladnier Ussery; children Lorraine Witz, Minneapolis, Minn., Darlene Warren, Big Sandy, Donna Toombs, North Little Rock, Ark., Lydia Wiley, Terrell, Texas, Jay Ussery, Marco Island, Fla., and Sharon Jalil, Arlington, Texas; sisters Elfreda Lieblong, Loell Bowie, Reba Luck and Joanna Earl; 17 grandchildren and stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
