Obituaries

Ronald McCollum, 64, of Kilgore, Texas, died Nov. 30 after a four-month battle with cancer. Mr. McCollum was born Nov. 1, 1940, in Gilmer, Texas. He was retired from the construction business. Survivors include his wife, Jewel, of Kilgore, Texas.; sons, Michael McCollum, Huntsville, Texas, and Brian McCollum, Albuquerque, N.M.; daughters Leigh Ann McCollum, Temple, Texas, and Kimberly McCollum, McKinney, Texas; a stepson, Delbert Tennison, Tennessee Colony, Texas; stepdaughters Alicia Lewis of Longview and Marquesa "Kakie" McCracken, Gilmer; brothers Gene McCollum, Pritchett, Texas, and Lewis McCollum, Bastrop, Texas; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Mrs. McCollum receives mail at 13384 CR 293 N., Kilgore, Texas 75662, U.S.A.

Tommy McMurray of Broken Arrow, Okla., died Nov. 19. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette, daughter Shantil, son-in-law Ron Kolb and son Tom and was preceded in death by son Shane. Rodney Newell, 58, of Beerwh, Queensland, Australia, passed away on Nov. 24 after a relatively short battle with cancer. Please remember his wife, Marion, and the rest of the family in your prayers.

Violet Shoemaker of Jackson, Calif., passed away Nov. 24. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Mike James; son, Russell Shoemaker; daughter, Anna O'Day; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Please remember the family in your prayers.

Merry "Margie" Spurgeon Heaton died Nov. 16 in Thousand Palms, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband of 14 years, Warren Jay Heaton Jr., in October 2003. She was a longtime member of the Church of God and worked at Ambassador College from the late 1960s to the mid-1970s. Many students will remember her for her generosity. She is survived by two children: a son, David Spurgeon, and his wife, Janice, of Cathedral City, Calif., and a daughter, Blaine Lindquist, and her husband, Dennis, of Arvada, Colo. She also had eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She is greatly missed by all.

Janet E. Borton, 62, died Nov. 28 at a hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind. Born in Warsaw, Ind., she was self-employed with Borton's Cleaning Service for nine years and was an active member of the United Church of God. She had two heart surgeries in recent months and died from complications arising after the second operation. Janet was a hard-working, faithful Christian who devoted her life to the local membership. Survivors include her husband, Robert Borton of Churubusco; sons, Joel Borton of Fort Wayne, Ind., Jeffrey A. Borton of Churubusco, Ind.; a daughter-in-law, Suzanne; a granddaughter, Sophia Borton of Fort Wayne; mother, Helen Welty of Menton, Ind.; sisters, Helene Dunlap of Jacksonville, Fla., Sue Ann Mitzell of Dallas, Texas; and brother, Lyle Welty of Cleveland, Ohio.
