Tulsa is site of special service

TULSA, Okla.--Several Church of God congregations combined Dec. 28 for a lively Sabbath service and get-together, reports Ray Kurr of Mounds, Okla., pastor of the Church of God Tulsa Fellowship.

Mr. Kurr and Lawrence Gregory, pastor of the Tulsa Church of God, had invited a guest speaker for the day, Dave Havir, pastor of the Church of God Big Sandy (Texas).

The combined service took place in the building owned by Mr. Gregory's congregation, beginning with breakfast, then progressing to a praise-and-worship song service in the morning.

For the preaching service, Mr. Kurr led songs and delivered the first message.

Mr. Gregory made announcements, David Andrews sang a solo for special music, and the Fellowship Choir, led by Mr. Kurr, harmonized.

Mr. Kurr, in his message, encouraged the brethren to look to God and pay heed to Jesus' words concerning overcoming and a Christian's calling.

"Dave Havir's message helped us see the good and bad in situations, then focus on the good," said Mr. Kurr.

"It was a wonderful service with over 100 strong" in attendance.

After the service some of the brethren met at the home of one of the Church of God Tulsa Fellowship members for dinner and a Bible study, which lasted until the wee hours.

"All in all," said Mr. Kurr, "the whole day was one of learning and being encouraged.

"We all want to thank the Big Sandy Church of God and the Havir family for allowing Dave to come and spend the Sabbath with us. It helped reinforce many relationships and helped all of us to grow and mature a little bit more."
