Henk Jens dies

BELMORE, N.S.W., Australia--Henk Jens, 79, of Belmore, Australia, died Dec. 17, 2013, of natural causes.

Mr. Jens was a longtime Church of God member and regular writer of articles that appeared every issue in the Connections section of The Journal.

He operated the rightly-dividing.net Web site, to which he posted numerous articles reflecting his studies of Scripture.

At the top of Mr. Jens' home page appeared the legend "Upon hearing the truth when honestly mistaken, one either stops being mistaken or quits being honest."

Mr. Jens is survived by his wife and two grown children. See his obituary on page 9 of this issue of The Journal.

Mr. Flurry faints

EDMOND, Okla.--Philadelphia Church of God (PCG) Pastor General Gerald Flurry, 78, fainted while giving a sermon to his church's headquarters congregation the Sabbath of Jan. 4, 2014.

After awakening not long after he lost consciousness, Mr. Flurry was anointed by his son, Stephen Flurry.

According to a press release from the PCG, Mr. Flurry's fainting spell interrupted his sermon about a "new revelation from Ezekiel."

Family patriarch injured

VALENCIA CITY, Philippines--Long-time Church of God member and family patriarch Simplicio Cambare, 74, of a United Church of God congregation fell off a truck while helping to load sugarcane and fractured a thigh bone.

In extreme pain, he was rushed to a hospital 12 miles away on a rough mountain road.

The family requests prayers.

Plato's shadow

UNIVERSAL CITY, Texas--Gary Petty has a new book out, Plato's Shadow: The Hellenizing of Christianity, about foundational teachings of the earliest Christians and how their message was shaped by Greek and Roman society.

Mr. Petty, a United Church of God pastor and telecast presenter, decided to write a book about "primitive Christianity" and the influence of gnosticism and Hellenism on Christianity.

Demolition at former AC

PASADENA, Calif.--The demolition of buildings on the former campus of Ambassador College has claimed the original AC building: the library.

"For those of us who went to Ambassador College in Pasadena, Calif., this is a noteworthy sight of remembrance," wrote Victor Kubik, a member of the United Church of God, at kubik.org.

"It was an era of our learning and training for the work of the ministry. But everything physical in this world, no matter its beauty and importance at one time, is transitory."

The building was on Orange Grove Boulevard.

Hits from Israel

OCEANSIDE, Calif.--Brian Harris, who runs the America and Britain's Future Web site (americaandbritainsfuture.com) reports the site has received almost 50,000 hits from residents of Israel.

Diana update

BRISBANE, Australia--The writer of several books alleging a major conspiracy involving the death of Princess Diana in 1979 in Paris says a report that came out inDecember 2013 by Scotland Yard is "severely deficient."

The author, John Morgan, a former member of the Worldwide Church of God, said the U.K. police's report is "useless," and "I feel that the police are treating the public like fools."

Mr. Morgan, quoted extensively in news media around the world, has reported what he calls the "unlawful killing of Diana" and a high-level cover-up.

His books have included Diana Inquest: Corruption at Scotland Yard. His most recent is Alan Power Exposed: Hundreds of Errors in 'The Princess Diana Conspiracy.'"

Mr. Morgan's latest book is a review of another book, The Princess Diana Conspiracy, by Alan Power, that Mr. Morgan calls "a work of fiction and fantasy" that is a"fraudulently" presented "minefield of deceptive writing."
