Obituaries

Wayne Phillips passed away Sunday, June 17, 2007, at his home in Winter Haven, Fla., of pancreatic cancer. He was 65. Born on June 7, 1942, in Daleville, Ala., Mr. Phillips had been a Bartow and Winter Haven resident for the past 53 years.

Obituaries


Frank Cody of Gaffney, S.C., passed away June 18 at the age of 80. He was a longtime member of the Church of God International and attended services in Hickory, N.C. Condolences may be sent to his son, Dennis Cody, at 1616 Ellis Ferry Rd., Gaffney, SC 28742.

Mr. Phillips was a buyer for Scotty's Inc. for approximately 20 years and was currently employed by Sunbelt Forest Products in the lumber industry. He was also a member of the United Church of God in Tampa. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Betty Jo Phillips of Winter Haven, a daughter, Rebecca Ritter (Robert) of Lakeland, a son, Eric Phillips (Donna) also of Lakeland, two sisters; Clara Sommerkamp of Saint Petersburg, and Fay Bukowski of Crown Point, Ind., a brother, Carlton Phillips of Nashville, N.C., and two grandchildren, Meigan and Micha Ritter.

William Pugh Riemen, 78, died June 1 in Dellwood, Wis., after a long battle with cancer. Dr. Riemen was born in Madison, Wis., on Nov. 18, 1928, and had been a resident of Big Sandy, Texas, since 1976. During a long career, he taught mathematics at several East Texas colleges including Ambassador before retiring in 1994. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Doris; children, Kathy O'Neal of Chantilly, Va., Carol Killingley of Big Sandy, Barbara Bruhn of Big Sandy and William Riemen of Cincinnati, Ohio; and nine grandchildren. Dr. Riemen attended the Hawkins Methodist Church in Hawkins, Texas. A private service was held in Madison, Wis., on Sun., June 10.

Blaine Suzanne Spurgeon Lindquist died June 2, 2007, of ovarian cancer. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Dennis; sons Monte (Robin) Lindquist and Jeff (Theresa) Lindquist; daughters Deborah (Eric) Smith and Cheron (Mike) Lange; and 11 grandchildren. Daughter Desirea (Doug) Orban preceded her in death. She is also survived by one brother, David (Janice) Spurgeon of Palm Springs, Calif. David and Janice are members of the LCG. Many of you will remember her from the Denver WCG. She was a very gracious, loving person and will be missed by many. The family receives mail at 8424 Chase Dr., Arvada, CO 80003, U.S.A.
