Church of God International cofounder dies

TYLER, Texas--Guy Carnes, 72, longtime Church of God member and one of three founders of the Church of God International, died Nov. 2 after having learned only a few weeks earlier he had cancer.

Mr. Carnes, along with Garner Ted Armstrong and Benny Sharp, began the CGI in 1978.

Before the beginning of the CGI, Mr. Carnes had been principal of Imperial Schools, the elementary and high school operated by the Worldwide Church of God on the grounds of Ambassador College near Big Sandy, Texas, for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Hammer Carnes, Tyler; sons Rod Carnes, Houston, Texas, Randy Carnes, Tyler, and Rick Carnes, Dallas, Texas; and five grandchildren.

Another longtime Church of God member, C. Wayne Cole of Tyler, conducted the funeral service Nov. 5. It was attended by friends from many Church of God groups.
