Arnold W. Lane
Arnold W. Lane, 81, of Cincinnati, Ohio, succumbed to the effects of a stroke on Dec. 1, 2006. He was baptized in the Ohio River in 1958 and ordained as a local elder in 1970. His survivors include Muriel, his wife of 61 years; daughters Laura Kelley of Big Sandy, Texas, Kay Brackley of Cordova, Tenn., and Karen Rice of Baton Rouge, La.; and sons Alan of Bethesda, Md., and Ronn and Jonn, both of Cincinnati.
Esther Taylor
Esther Taylor, 75, our sister in Christ, died on Feb. 14, 2007, at a hospice facility in Rock Hill, S.C. She died from complications of diabetes with her family at her side.
Curtis, her husband of 57 years, said of Esther, "She remained strong in her faith until the end."
As a longtime member, baptized in 1960, Esther began attending services in New York when there was only a single Radio Church of God congregation in the state. She attended the Feast of Tabernacles for the last time in 2002 in Gatlinburg, Tenn. At that time her kidneys were failing, she had lost the use of one arm, and she was becoming almost totally dependent on her wheelchair.
For the last few years Esther suffered from depression and, because of her failing eyesight, was unable to respond to the cards and letters of the brethren.

Barton Williams
Barton "Bart" Williams of Merion, Pa., died in early February 2007, three weeks before his 74th birthday.
Mr. Williams periodically had problems with his heart for the past 10 years. He had been a member of the Worldwide Church of God since 1985 and a member of the chorale. From 1993 on, he had associated with several groups, including Global, the Church of God in Truth and God's Church the Very Elect in Australia.
He is survived by a brother, Richard Williams; two nephews; three grandnieces; and a grand-nephew.
Bart served with the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. He was retired from the Bell Telephone Co. of Pennsylvania, where he had been employed for 30 years.
He is remembered for many acts of kindness.
Minnie Jauch
Hermina Geertje Glimmerveen McDonald "Minnie" Jauch, 87, of Gladewater, Texas, died Feb. 19, 2007, in a Tyler, Texas, hospital. Mrs. Jauch was born April 26, 1919, in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and came to America in 1922 at the age of 3 with her parents.
Minnie grew up in California and married Donald George McDonald in 1939. After his death, in 1971, Minnie married Eric Thomas Jauch in 1974 and moved to Illinois. They retired to Big Sandy, Texas, in 1980.
Minnie was a Church of God member for 54 years. Besides both of her husbands and a sister, she was preceded in death by a son, Stanley Glenn McDonald. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Black, Big Sandy; a brother, John Glimmerveen, Reno, Nev.; a stepson, Mark Jauch, Tyler; a stepdaughter, Karen Rogers, Ava, Ill.; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and a host of friends. |

Pete and Lydia Okamura
Pete and Lydia ("Geneva" Jeffries) Okamura celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Feb. 4 with a Super Bowl party for family and friends at their home in Sacramento, Calif. Pete was stationed at Blytheville AFB, in Arkansas, when he met Lydia at the Cream Castle, where "they made the best strawberry sundaes in Mississippi County." They married Jan. 31, 1957, in Hernando, Miss. Mary Lou Jones was matron of honor and Reuben Fernandez best man. |

Clarence Lucas
Clarence Lucas of Wylie, Texas, died Feb. 18, 2007, after a long fight with cancer. Mr. Lucas was a longtime minister with the Churches of God. Pete and Lydia Okamura

After 20 years, Pete retired from the Air Force and then served 22 years with the Social Security Administration in Jonesboro and Blytheville, Ark., and Baton Rouge, La.
Lydia has not retired. She continues to serve the Church of God and her family with her joy for life, laughter, song and wisdom. She still enjoys thrift-store shopping (treasure hunting) and travel. Last year she visited Israel and Jordan.
The Okamuras' children and spouses are Sabrina (Chris) Johnson of Sacramento, Teresa (Page) Jett and Monique Gann (William) Roberts of Norfolk, Va., and Michael (Christina) Okamura of Amman, Jordan.
Their grandchildren are Michael Page and Natalie Jett, Michael Shane and Derek Gann, and Taylor and Sela Okamura. Their daughter Sabrina would love to pass on any well-wishes old friends may have.
Don Hobbs
Howard and Dorothy Bruce of Glendale, Ariz., just wanted to let Don Hobbs' many friends know that he passed away after the Feast in October 2006. A longtime member of the Worldwide Church of God in Alaska, he spent years with the Church of God International as well as the group pastored by Rod Meredith.
Don was living in San Antonio, Texas, with his daughter.
At one time Don ran for the U.S. Senate from Alaska.
He is survived by his wife and several children and grandchildren. |

Bob Borton
Robert A. Borton, 66, died Dec. 7, 2006, of a fast-growing, inoperable brain tumor. Born in Fort Wayne, Ind., he was an internal auditor with Perfection Bakery for 43 years, retiring in 2002.
Bob was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the United Church of God.
Surviving are sons Joel Borton of Fort Wayne and Jeffery A. Borton of Churubusco, Ind.; two granddaughters, Sophia and Tessa; brothers Richard E. and Thomas E. Borton, both of Fort Wayne; and a sister, Barbara A. Bolen of Fremont, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Borton, in 2004.
Bob graduated from North Side High School and Indiana University Extension in Fort Wayne. While in the Army Bob took accounting courses. He worked from 1959 to 2002, 43 years, for Perfection Bakeries, Inc.
Bob was active in the church for about 40 years. In 1973 he was ordained as a deacon and in 1978 as an elder.
Susan Vance
Susan Claire Vance died Dec. 31, 2006, at her home in Tulsa.
The former Susan French was born May 15, 1947, in Dayton, Ohio. Her mother, the late Peggy French, was a British citizen and war bride who moved to Ohio with her husband shortly after World War II.
When she was 7, Susan witnessed an auto accident in Ohio that killed her father, brother, grandfather and grandmother. As a result, Susan and her mother and sister moved to England, where Susan attended elementary and high school.
Susan moved from England to Tulsa, Okla., in the 1970s and met Gary Vance on a blind date in 1971. They married in 1973.
Susan is survived by her husband, Gary W. Vance, and son, Gary W. Vance II, both of Tulsa; a sister, Rita French, and two nieces of Albuquerque, N.M.; and relatives in England.
Susan is also survived by a sister-in-law, Amy Wallace, and her family. |
